Information blog
This is the information blog for the reference desk. Anything that we think someone who works the desk needs to know will be posted here. This can include assignments students are coming in with, technology problems, shortcuts for information etc.
Access problems may require more questions-- Yesterday I helped a CSU faculty member who was having problems gaining entrance to the search page of the public access version of the Code of Georgia provided by LexisNexis. This is on our "Legal Research" A-Z page. He was using a Mac with Safari, and then went to Firefox, but until he used his Dell with Explorer couldn't pull up the search page that I could see. Some people may use Firefox or another browser successfully, but the versions, the internet connections, and other variables on any given day or time can create a temporary access issue.
A couple of suggestions to help you "troubleshoot" with CSU users who are having problems gaining access to databases or to a CSU website link when they seem to be doing everything else correctly. 1. Check to see if they are using an IBM or Mac. 2. Find out what browser they are using. The main choices for IBM are Explorer, Netscape, Firefox. The main choices for Mac are Safari and Opera. Thanks for reading this long blog entry. See you in a week!
